College of Applied and Natural Sciences
The College of Applied and Natural Sciences (ANS) at Louisiana Tech University provides students with skills that will help them succeed in the workplace and beyond. Faculty and staff are focused on student success, and they help our students to learn critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills, to conduct research and inquiry, and then to communicate their scientific advances in an effective manner. Through service to local, state, national, and global communities, ANS students, faculty, and staff seek to increase the University’s impact on our world.
Student success in programs such as BS in Medical Laboratory Science (formerly Medical Technology) includes developing and performing a broad range of laboratory tests which are essential to the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of many diseases. The Medical Laboratory Science curriculum is designed for students who are preparing for careers as clinical specialists who design, perform, evaluate, and supervise biological, chemical, and other clinically related tests. Job opportunities for these specialists exist in hospitals, clinics, research facilities, industries, and educational institutions. Student Achievement data for the Medical Laboratory Science program is provided in the form of pass rates on the Certification Examination.
The Nutrition and Dietetics program within the School of Biological Sciences offers one graduate certificate program in Dietetics, a post-baccalaureate dietetic internship, and an undergraduate degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. Our graduates are well-prepared for success, with an 81% pass rate on the Registered Dietitian exam within one year of their first attempt, well above national averages. The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) has as its primary mission the responsibility to provide a high-quality education for students to prepare them for entry into graduate programs in speech-language pathology or audiology, and ultimately into these professions. To fulfill this mission, the undergraduate and graduate curricula are designed to permit students to (a) obtain knowledge in the basic communication sciences and disorders; (b) participate in learning experiences that are fundamental to the continuation of their professional education through graduate study in speech-language pathology or audiology; (c) meet the nationally recognized standards of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association for professional certification; and (d) satisfy the academic and clinical practicum requirements of the Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech Pathology and Audiology (LBESPA) for licensure for entry-level practice. The CSD houses BA in Pre-Professional Speech-Language Pathology, the MA in Speech Pathology, and the Au.D., Doctorate in Audiology. The graduate programs are consistently recognized within the top 50 programs in the US. Louisiana Tech University’s Nursing program is highly respected for its strong academic foundation, hands-on clinical experiences, and commitment to preparing students for licensure and professional nursing practice. Accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and clinical judgment necessary to succeed as registered nurses. Graduates of the ASN program are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Louisiana Tech’s ASN program offers a clear and streamlined pathway to becoming a licensed registered nurse and launching a successful nursing career. Graduates consistently demonstrate strong readiness to enter the workforce as safe, competent professionals, reflected in the program’s high NCLEX-RN pass rates, strong job placement outcomes, and long-term career success in the field of nursing. College of Business
The College of Business is one of five colleges within the University, and offers eight undergraduate degree programs in addition to the Master of Business Administration, Master of Accountancy, P.h.D. in Business Administration, and several certificate programs. The College has been accredited by AACSB International since 1955, when the School of Business Administration was one of 78 schools of business in the United States to become members of the American Association of Collegiate Schools of Business. The MBA program was initially accredited in 1978, and the School of Accountancy was among the initial 20 schools receiving separate Accounting accreditation and the first in Louisiana.

The School of Accountancy at Louisiana Tech University is one of the oldest and most respected accounting programs in Louisiana. Louisiana Tech is one of the few institutions worldwide that have a separately accredited accounting program from the AACSB. In fact, they were one of the first accounting-accredited programs in the United States, and the very first in Louisiana. Moreover, the successful placement of Tech’s graduates through the years continues to give our graduates an edge over others because of the strong relationships they have with accounting firms and the corporate world. Our overall quality is measured in the success of our graduates.
The School of Accountancy at Louisiana Tech University is a charter member of the Federation of Schools of Accountancy and currently holds full membership in this organization. The school is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service for the benefit of their students, the public, and other constituencies. College of Education and Human Sciences
The College of Education and Human Sciences at Louisiana Tech University is one of the five colleges at the university. The mission of the College traces back to the origins of Louisiana Tech in 1894, and continues to speak to the transformation of the human experience. Today, the College of Education and Human Sciences consists of four separate departments (Curriculum, Instruction, and Leadership; Human Ecology; Kinesiology; and Psychology and Behavioral Sciences), awarding varying academic degrees ranging from the baccalaureate to the doctoral levels.
The Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Leadership is a community of researchers and practitioners transforming educational experiences for a better world. They offer a variety of career options for those interested in teaching, leadership, and/or the learning sciences. Traditional certification pathways include pre-kindergarten, elementary grades 1-5, middle grades 4-6, secondary grades 6-12, and special education at the baccalaureate level. Individuals can pursue graduate certificates and/or two different master’s degrees in either Educational Leadership or Curriculum and Instruction. Additionally, we offer a doctoral degree, i.e., EdD, in Educational Leadership which focuses on learning organizations. Faculty members are nationally known for publications, research, presentations, and exemplifying best practices in teaching and learning. All teacher education programs have been approved by the Louisiana Department of Education, Louisiana Board of Regents, and Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
The School of Human Ecology’s mission is to explore and enhance the human experience through the context of families, human development, and merchandising. With a focus on promoting diversity and sustainability in a globalizing and ever-changing world, they endeavor to create competent and engaged professionals, contribute to scholarly research, and partner with and provide services for the community. The School of Human Ecology houses two undergraduate programs: Family and Child Studies and Fashion Merchandising and Retail Studies. The department of HEC is accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS). The Early Childhood Educational Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the undergraduate Child Life concentration is endorsed by the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP).
The Kinesiology Department is one of the fastest-growing departments in the college, with its emphasis on exercise physiology, health science, sports performance, and senior fitness. The department offers two undergraduate degrees in Health Promotion and Health Science, as well as a master’s degree in Kinesiology with concentrations in either sports psychology or sports performance. Faculty members are nationally known for publications, research, presentations, and exemplifying best practices in kinesiology. Because of their regional and international reputations, they have consulted on multiple projects in the country. The Master of Science in Kinesiology’s concentration in Sports Performance is recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Education Recognition Program (ERP).
The Department of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences offers degree programs at all levels. In addition to the undergraduate Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, the department offers master’s degrees in counseling and guidance and industrial-organizational psychology, and doctoral degrees in counseling psychology and industrial-organizational psychology. The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Counseling Psychology is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). It offers a balanced training experience designed to prepare professional psychologists within the scientist-practitioner model. The primary goal of the program is to produce professional psychologists who are competent in both research and professional practice.

College of Engineering and Science
The Louisiana Tech University College of Engineering and Science offers the best dynamic and support educational environment that produces the highest caliber and most sought-after graduates in the region with interdisciplinary research and scholarship that has a transformative impact.. We consider the success of our students the primary standard for our success and are constantly evaluating our curricula to ensure that students have valuable workforce skills by graduation.
The College of Engineering and Science consists of seven engineering programs, two engineering technology programs, and four science programs with degrees offered in each. The College also offers graduate degrees in engineering and science at both the master and doctoral level. The College’s research is focused through six centers: the Center for Applied Physics Studies, the Center for Biomedical Engineering and Rehabilitation Science, the Center for Secure Cyberspace, the Institute for Micromanufacturing, the Integrated STEM Education Research Center and the Trenchless Technology Center. Our College is ranked by US News and World Report as one of the best engineering programs in the nation.
The college has over 3,000 enrolled students. Our vibrant student organizations have won national awards for their programs, outreach activities, and designs, and we were one of the first programs to establish a National Academy of Engineering Grand Challenges Scholar Program. Our graduates enjoy excellent placement outcomes with nearly 90% placement in relevant industrial positions or graduate schools within nine months of their graduation.
We continue to offer pioneering degree programs, including the first B.S. in Cyber Engineering in the nation and an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Molecular Sciences and Nanotechnology. Our Masters and Doctor in Engineering and Technology Management program is available online and has been recognized multiple times in top 10 lists for best values among engineering management programs. We recently opened a new 128,800 square foot, Integrated Engineering and Science Building, dedicated to project-based learning for engineering and science majors.
College of Liberal Arts
As part of Louisiana Tech University, the College of Liberal Arts is committed to the University’s dedication to quality in teaching, in research and creative activity, and in public service: First and foremost, the College of Liberal Arts seeks to support the mission of Louisiana Tech University in maintaining “a faculty committed to teaching and advising, a student-oriented faculty dedicated to preparing students to achieve their goals in a rapidly changing economic and civic environment… a faculty that will through both theoretical and applied research and creative activities, contribute to the development of new knowledge, new art, and new technology.”
The College of Liberal Arts, through its course offerings and dedicated faculty, provides students with the critical and creative thinking, communication skills, and cultural literacy that are the hallmark of a highly educated person. Whenever possible the College of Liberal Arts emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches as a means to show the inherent connectedness between all forms of knowledge and to prepare students for the rapidly changing economic, political, social, and cultural environment of the 21st century.
With five distinct schools, the College of Liberal Arts serves students by offering a variety of classes in the traditional fields of the humanities, pre-professional programs, like Speech-Language Pathology or Architecture, and a host of degrees in the creative and performing arts. We also offer a variety of graduate-level programs at the master’s level as well as a Doctor of Audiology degree.
Our undergraduate programs prepare students for advanced training in professional schools, including law and medicine, as well as a wide range of career opportunities in business, media and publishing, non-profit organizations, government, social work, and the arts. The Department of Professional Aviation is a member of the University Aviation Association and is accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International. They maintain the highest academic standards and keep abreast of the latest in technologies and needs of the aviation industry. FAA certificates and ratings are available to Louisiana Tech students including the Private, Instrument, Commercial, Certified Flight Instructor, and Certified Instrument Flight Instructor. In 2017, the Department of Professional Aviation integrated a new fleet of 12 Cessna Skyhawk and Piper Arrow aircraft and one Advanced Aviation Training Device. In June 2021 the department added a second Advanced Aviation Training Device. The Department conducts both ground, simulator, and flight training year-round. Flight operations are headquartered at the Ruston Regional Airport in the Louisiana Tech Flight Operations building. They maintain aviation management cooperative agreements with the Louisiana Airport Managers Association and many Fixed-Based Operators in the region. Their links with industry are accomplished by internship programs with numerous major air carriers, regional airlines, corporate aviation, and government organizations as well as maintaining close contacts with their alumni. The graduate placement rate in both degree programs has been 100% for the past 11 years.
The master’s program in Speech-Language Pathology and the doctoral program in Audiology (Au.D.) also provide examples of student success. Both graduate programs are accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech Language and Hearing Association. The M.A. in Speech Language Pathology provides the education and training of future speech-language pathologists who will be prepared to function in a variety of professional settings.
